You've always been able to use the full word in the command, but since 1.13 they removed the number and single letter commands. You're using the right command you need to allow cheats first.

The /time command to change the time to day is available in the following versions of Minecraft:

Background

In Minecraft, gameplay is divided into day and night, just like in real life! During the day, you can break blocks and place blocks in new locations to build elaborate structures. And at night, monsters/mobs appear that you can battle.

When the game turns to night, you can choose to sleep in your bed, battle mobs, or you can use a cheat to change the time from night to day.

How to Enter the Command

1. Open the Chat Window

The easiest way to run a command in Minecraft is within the chat window. Virtual villagers a new home game cheats. The game control to open the chat window depends on the version of Minecraft:

• For Pocket Edition (PE), tap on the chat button at the top of the screen.

Type the command in the chat window. As you are typing, you will see the command appear in the lower left corner of the game window. Press the Enter key to run the command.

Once the cheat has been entered, the game will return to daytime:

You will see the message 'Set the time to 1000' appear in the lower left corner of the game window. This will reset the time on the Minecraft game to 1000 which turns the game to day.

To make a monster prison:
Go on creative mode and build house like prison then you pick a monster of your choice then you get to follow you when you get it to your prison break a whole in the wall an go in it with your monster then get an iron door or blolcks and block the whole and put a whole in the roof fly out and block it up

Teleport to Top of Map:
If your in a hole and want to get to the top of the map without all the mining then here is an easy trick. Dig 2 blocks out and then place glass panes there. Save the game when you are standing up close to the glass. Exit the game then start it back up again. You should be at ground level unless there were any dungeons above you!

Infinite Snow:
Allyou got to do is make a snow golem/man and trap it where you can see it's feet but it can't get out.you then take a shovel and hit the ground at the snowmans feet but don't hit him! Snow should just keep apearing. Plz like this.hope it helps you

Break into the Void:
Use axes to dig a hole to the Bedrock and then place TNT on the top of the bedrock ALL the way up to Layer 127. When you now explode the TNT you will make a hole into the Void.

How to get music discs:
If you can, make sure you have a bow and arrows with you when you do this. Go outside at night and get a creeper and a skeleton together. Then get them to follow you untill the skeleton kills the creeper, then there should be a music disc where the creeper died. The reason why you should have a bow and arrows is because you can shoot the creeper twice so the skeleton only has to shoot it once before it dies.

TNT cannon:
So you're going to need 22 blocks of gold, a lever, 14 redstone, 4 redstone repeaters, a bucket of water, something to mine with, a stone slab, and 8 blocks of TNT. First, make a 9x3 rectangle with the gold. Then, mine one of the blocks in the middle. (On the short side.) Choose wisely, as this will be the end the TNT will be coming out of. Put the stone slab where that block was. Go around to the other side and place a gold block on top of the block that's already there. Go to the other side of that block,and put yet another gold block. Go back around, and mine the block it's attached to. Put the lever in it's place. On the right side, put redstone all the way down. On the left side, put two redstone, then put four redstone repeaters. Then, put 1 redstone, and then put the gold blocks in the remaining 2 spaces. Continue the redstone on the blocks. Then, step into the cannon, facing the gold block that has the lever on the other side of it. Empty the bucket of water, making sure to get UNDER the gold block. Then, put a TNT block on the stone slab, and the 5 blocks after it. Set the redstone repeaters to the level of your choice, flip the lever, and watch the TNT fly! It will either launch the TNT flying or blow up, So I suggest you do this in an isolated area first, away from your house. This may work with other materials besides gold, but I have not tried that yet.

Nether Portal:
Get obsisdian in creative mode inventory and punch holes in the ground put it in (4). When you hav did that build it up at least 5 high and meet them together. If you r on the xbox press X to get on the creative page again and scroll across until you find flint and steel put it on the obsisdian in the ground it will go purple, walk into it and stay in it, when you realise you hav got to a different place walk out and you will be in the nether

Snowball man:
To stack 2 snow blocks on top of each other then put a pumpkin on top of the 2 snow blocks and walla!
-tip- do something to keep the spiders away from the snowball man
To make a monster prison:

Invincibility:
Start in survival or creative. If you start in survival you will need about 35 diamonds and a friend. If you start in creative, just get full diamond armor and a dispenser and something to kill someone with. Put your armor in the dispenser and stay in the dispenser. Your friend needs to break the dispenser with a sword. still stay in the dispencer. Take out your armor, put it on, go in the view so you can see the back of your head, then let your frind hit you. Your armor will disappear, but you will still be invincible. You can go in any view, go in water, the nether, anything you want, this has been tested.
